handling shapes

Studio Roosegaarde, Rotterdam, Netherlands, 2008

This project focused on the generation of ideas and prototyping to create a solar panel façade for a large-scale building, in collaboration with the design team at Studio Roosegaarde. The forms developed were modular constructions, layering and folding flexible, transparent panels to create sinuous curves that emphasised the reflections present in the environment.

Studio Roosegaarde explores the boundaries between humans and technology. Using new media, Studio Roosegaarde's interactive designs trigger human senses to create a sensual engagement with their environment.

Work was also undertaken with the studio on the development of the worlds first sustainable dance floor, installed at club WATT in Rotterdam, NL. The interactive dance floor generates electricity through the act of dancing using mechanisms and embedded technologies to harvest energy.
